The Moors have a great starting location which is only really vulnerable from Spain. No one else suggested them, so I will say the Moors or Sicily. Venice: Excellent crossbows and heavy infantry, and some really great late game units, but the early game can be rough as you are trapped between Hungary, the HRE, and the Byzantines.to say nothing about Milan (or even the Pope). Seljuks/Mameluks: Both are great, but both are also square in the path of Crusaders and possibly Mongols. They are a blast, but are kind of hated by everyone, and have to deal with Catholic and Muslim aggression. You will be poor, your settlements will be isolated, you will have to deal with all kinds of distance-to-capital penalties, and you will most likely be the first course for the Mongols as they feast upon Europe. Really, this game isn't THAT hard, so almost any nation will work for a beginner. They are probably the only Muslim nation I would suggest for a beginner since they don't have to deal with crusades very often. By then, you can probably take on France or North Africa as you see fit.Īt the same time, the Almohads have a roster similar to Spain/Portugal but with slightly less capable light cav in exchange for some better heavy infantry. Portugal/Spain are tricky to play in battle with their reliance on skirmishers and light cav, but mostly only have to worry about Almohad aggression early on.until they turn on each other for control of the peninsula. They have many potential enemies (you WILL be attacked by Italians), but it can be a very interesting game. The HRE has a very well-rounded roster and a lot of starting territory.
The Danes are pretty secluded, but can still make attacks on Central Europe with ease. The Danes may be a good choice if you prefer heavy infantry to archers/cavalry (though they still have archers and cavalry). You also have a lot of free real estate to take early on, and can take your pick of expansion directions. Their early units are pretty great (and they go on to have very good cavalry and heavy archers in the mid-late game). France may take your mainland holdings if they don't get embroiled in any other wars, but you can always take it back once the isles are under your control.īut, France is not too difficult, either. As others have mentioned, England is pretty easy due to having a natural ocean barrier against everyone but Scotland (who you can easily take out since their early game units are garbage) and the AI not being terribly good at naval invasions. The starting faction will probably depend on what you like. Very Hard battle difficulty doesn't completely nerf infantry like it does in Warhammer, but it's still not going to be a balanced experience. Battle difficulty at Normal-Hard is also pretty good. Otherwise the AI will be REALLY passive, especially if you are familiar with the core concept of TW games from Warhammer You probably don't want to set the campaign difficulty below Hard. A few things I would suggest for an overall good campaign experience: Really, most factions are not too difficult in Med 2. Think we missed one?
